be the hero to the next one in need

November 23, 2009 · 1 Comment

from the philippine daily inquirer today :

RP pushcart educator CNN hero of the year – INQUIRER.net, Philippine News for Filipinos.

mabuhay ka efren!

inspiring exerpts from the news article…

“Each person has a hidden hero within, you just have to look inside you and search it in your heart, and be the hero to the next one in need,” Peñaflorida.

Serve, serve well, serve others above yourself and be happy to serve… Peñaflorida.

i particularly liked what jim dalton, cnn worldwide president said before the event :

“We do something that’s not done—shine a light on everyday people that do extraordinary work,” Walton.

they say nobody can beat a filipino especially if it’s online voting. i say, i’m sure he got a lot of votes from non-filipinos, too.

history

news banner at the PDI today

yesterday, filipinos celebrated victory once again :)

from the phippine daily inquirer

The greatest fighter of era, is filipino

He likened himself to a tiger. Actually, he could have referred to himself as a boxing deity and no one would have argued…

A tiger in seventh heaven. Although with his latest accomplishment, he is being referred to as the GOAT—the greatest of all time…

from cnn

from yahoo news

Manny Pacquiao’s speed and power were way too much for Miguel Cotto’s heart

“This is the last weight division for me,” Pacquiao said. “It’s history for me and more importantly a Filipino did it…

Pacquiao Cotto Boxing

photo from yahoo news

quoting the inquirer once again from this news post (pacquio TKOs cotto, makes history)

No man has won seven world titles in seven weight divisions and only five boxers have won six – Pacquiao, Oscar de la Hoya, Thomas Hearns, Hector Camacho, and James Toney.

this is the kind of news we filipinos need now (after all the typhoon tragedies, politics and other source of depression) – a lot of pride and glory.

goodbye and thank you

August 5, 2009 · 2 Comments

today… a storm threathens the city. but filipinos braved the weather and came out of the streets to say goodbye and thank you to cory. a great leader… a great christian… a great filipino.

today i joined the hundred of thousands of people who stood by the streets amidst the heavy rains and the long wait. we stood by the rain and watched the mass from the giant tv screen in front of the malate church along roxas blvd. we joined the filipinos and non-filipinos, young and old — we were all there. we got wet, we cried, we followed her, we did the laban sign and we wore yellow…

the travel from manila cathedral to the manila memorial park lasted for 8 hours.

we cried as she passedby

we cried as she passedby

yellow & black

yellow & black

today… i was part of history.

more history captured here.

linggo ng palaspas

April 5, 2009 · 2 Comments

from the philippine daily inquirer today

palm-sunday1

Christ entered jerusalem then with a joyous crowd waving palms to celebrate his arrival… later on the same crowd yelled “crucify him!”, after they watched him carry a cross to calvary wearing a crown of thorns….

December 23, 2008 · Leave a Comment

warning : very looooooooong post ito.

philippine daily inquirer ngayon 23.12.08…

sad-santa

interesting editorial cartoon. why is santa crying? yup. si santa na icon ng generosity at gift giving. umiiyak? with all the crisis and recession talk sa kahit ano nalang means of media ngayon, sino nga namang hindi maiiyak.

but this is the season of giving and the season to remember what the best gift still is — giving the way the baby jesus was given to us… oo meron crisis and oo kailangan natin mag plano para sa future at kailangan nating maging practical and economical. pero lahat naman tayo eh gumagawa ng paraan para makapag-celebrate pa rin ng pasko diba?

My favorite story from mama still remain the same :

 bambinobambino1

photo from flicker

hindi mahalaga kung ano ang ibinigay… if it comes from the heart, it is worth everything. a related story gifts of loves is a must read too.

sabi ko naman diba mahaba…

iskul bukol

November 18, 2008 · 6 Comments

read in PEP na sa darating na 2008 metro manila filmfest, isa sa mapapanood ay ang ang “iskul bukol… 20 years after”! nabasa ko dito na they bailed out richie d’ horsey out of jail para makasama sa paggawa ng movie. they are trying to include as many original cast as they could. sana maganda yung movie… yung gaya ng how they make it back in the 80s.

iskul-bukol

Iskwelang kwela ‘to dito’y enjoyable
konting aral lang konting bulakbol
dito nang lahat, madaldal at bulol
dito na nga, Iskul Bukol

[chorus]
Ah hah hah, ah hoo yahh
iskul Bukol
ah hah hah, ah hoo yeah
iskul Bukol

lahat ay magulo, but okey lang, it’s cool
dito ay terrible, dito’y buhol-buhol
ito na nga, Iskul Bukol

[repeat chorus]

[coda]
Iskul, Iskul, Iskul Bukol (6x)
sa iskul naming ay sigurado ka
sa happening at sa katatawa
siguradong ang mga pabongga
ang di lang sure ang papasa

[repeat chorus]

[repeat coda]

Ito’y sayaw sa ating bayan
humahanga ang sandaigdigan
na sa galaw ng ‘yong mga kamay

At sa imbay ng mga baywang
anong ganda ay anong inam
kapag ito ay mamasdan
anong ganda at anong inam

November 3, 2008 · Leave a Comment

i saw this re-useable bag at kultura. kultura is a store at gf megamall, bldg a full of everything na gawang pinoy.

the back reads – his art, our heart. sabi din visit the site www.amorsoloretro.com. pero wala naman ang mga products dun. instead i re-discovered the great - fernando amorsolo.

he is our first ever national artist for painting. ang mga gawa niya reflects mostly of being filipino – from fruits, women, sceneries among others. he captures filipina at their loveliest and filipino traditions that we are proud of - celebration of a first born, pagtatanim ng palay, paglalaba sa sapa, etc. there will be a series of celebration ng mga arts nyang ito in various museums :

UP JORGE B. VARGAS MUSEUM AND FILIPINIANA RESEARCH CENTER
Amorsolo, His Contemporaries and Pictures of the War: Capturing Anxieties
METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF MANILA
Philippine Staple: The Land, The Harvest and the Maestro
AYALA MUSEUM
Amorsolo’s Women Concealed and Revealed
—————–

malamang pupuntahan ko ang nasa ayala museum.
