when was the last time you were touched by a movie?

jamal malik is one question away from winning 20million rupees.

dahil nga ang gusto ko nalang pinapanood lately ay ang mga feel-good-tagalog movies clueless about “slumdog millionaire” na nananalo ng best picture sa golden globes! nung sinabi ng movie-fanatic-friend ko na maganda ito at very different sa ibang movies, hindi ko lang sya pinansin. kasi para sa akin, malamang ang movie na ito, kapag pinanood ko e ma-stress ako kakaisip dahil sa lalim ng gusto iparating. so, sa tulad kong tamad na mag isip kapag umuwi na galing sa trabaho, hindi ko binalak na alamin ang. pero, noong sinabi ng brother ko na maganda and movie, na-curious ako… aba! ang kapatid ko na ang idea of a good movie eh fast and the furious at ang paboritong panoorin e mga movie ni jim carrey, nagandahan sa slumdog millionaire??? sinabi nya sa akin ang plot na sinabi na rin noon ng kaibigan ko… sige, papanoorin ko nga…

 

 

totoong maganda at very deserving ng best picture ang slumdog millionaire. the indian actors performed at their best. this movie showed us the slum part of india, but at the same time pinakita din nito na kahit ang isang taong lumaki sa slums at nabuhay sa pagiging con, will turn out to be someone who, when asked a question, answers them. truthfully. too truthful sabi nga ng pulis na interogator nya. the movie tells us about jamal, and his journey in life that lead him to the who-wants-to-a millionaire-contestant-seat. pinakita nito how someone un-educated (sabi nga nila) answered his way to the 20-million-rupees-question. jamal, in the movie, reminded me that the answers to life’s random questions are not always found and learned in the confines of a classroom or within the university walls. and in the end jamal would surprise me that all along he joined the show for a different reason most of us would.

 

one who is not used to watching foreign movies, like me, would probably be bothered with an all indian cast. i wasn’t. and I liked it. and when the film ended, i can only applaud and remember how this movie touched me and how the actors, especially the kids are very convincing in this film. i hope this one wins the oscars, too.

it’s official, this film won the 2008 best pirture award, best director, best screenplay, best original song and best orginal song among the 8 awards na nakuha nya kagabi.

 yup, the kids were there at the awards night, too!

JB or JB ???

jason bourne or james bond? sino mas gusto mo?

hindi nila nagustuhan ang quantum of solace na pinanood namin kanina. masyado daw madaming web ang story, confusing, walang focus at mga un-necessary characters na nagpalito lang sa kanila. party true. pero nagustuhan ko naman. action packed at naintindihan ko rin naman ang story. so kanina on the ride home – isa akon outcast trying to explain yung mga confusing parts para sa kanila about the movie.

anyway, in the middle of the movie, napuna namin ni ya na ang mga stunts ni james bond is not as smooth or suave as the previous bond movies. madmi syang jumping scenes, basagan ng window at mga fight scenes involving fists. then na-realize namin na ang moves nya are similar to that of jason bourne! yung takbo takbo nya sa mga bubong, pagtalon nya from one window to anotehr window with smashing glass, yung mag dis-arm nya sa mga umaresto sa using head smashing (aray!!!) at yung mag lakad nya sa mga beams na nakausli sa pader…

kaya naman pala narinig namin sa radyo on our way somewhere na ang topic nila

who do you prefer – james bond or jason bourne?

sinong mas gwapo si james bond or si jason bourne ? (ay hindi pala looks ang pinag-uusapan, hehehe)

pareho kaming mas gusto namin si jason bourne. kasi :

1. he’s more resourceful – wala sya masyadong gadgets, na pag me pinindot ka sa butones ng polo mo, maliit na camera pala or ballpen na me bala!
2. wala syang fancy cars na minsan nagsasalita, convertible at pinapa-valet madalas - naglalakad lang sya, nag-bus, nag-train, motor ng kalaban na na-confiscate nya, ninakaw na cab at ninakaw na kotse (fancy din pala)
3. he knows his target and he is very focused - wala syang mga side trips (well, kasi nga naman CIA lang ang kinaiinisan nya)
4. most of the time he operates on his own – walang reinforcement gaano from another organization who provides him with information, he does his own research
5. and of course, hindi sya bolero at babaero

well… most probably very biased ang opinion ko kasi si jason bourne is played by matt damon – ang aking soulmate (teka.. hindi nga pala ako naniniwala sa soulmate!) at ang pantasyang kayakap

my day is very much defined by these two words – great expectations… where there is great expectation, there lies great heartbreak (disappointment) when things do not go the way we expect them to be…

meron din modern movie about this book by charles dickens of te same title. hindi ko naman nabasa ang book so i can not compare it to the movie. but the movie is a gift… magaling ang actors – gwyneth, robert de niro, anne bancroft and of course, si ethan hawke. ang gwapo nya talaga ang he is very touching in this movie…

eternal sunshine of the spotless mind

was driving to work sometime last week – thurs or wed ata (not sure) and listening to chico and delamar’s the morning rush on the radio (rx93.1). they happen to quickly discuss how they both like this movie. i do too. the title is from a poem by alexander pope – eloisa to abelard (sobrang haba ng poem na ito).

tungkol sya sa isang medical procedure available where people undergo in order to fully erase a memory they wanted to forget. the movie is written by charlie kauffman and is starring jim carrey (joel) and kate winslet (clementine) as the couple who undergo the procedure at different times when their relationship turns sour. nasa movie din as supporting cast sina elijah wood, kirsten dunst and mark ruffalo.

hindi ako fan ni jim carrey, but i was really impressed and touched by him in this movie. he was serious and hurting and desperate to get rid of his girlfriend’s memory but in the end na re-realize nya na he was just as desperate to keep it. along the process of erasing their memory, they bump in to each other several times sa memory reacall and end up remembering they do not want the memory removal done. the movie’s ending is them having the memory erased and then meeting again on the same train they met for the first time .

nope. hindi ito part 2 ng previous entry ko. napanood ko na sya kagabi! thanks donna and rhea for waiting for me! i was not expecting it to be a movie with much depth. i went to see wanting to be entertained and i was! the movie did what i was hoping it will to me — to make me feel good afterwards. ang galing ni john lloyd, promise. ang gwapo nya in every angle, gwapo sya kung galit, kung naka smile, kung me sakit at kahit na umiiyak! si sarah din natural na natural umarte. ok sya .

i watched kung fu panda again – great diversion tactic. keeps your mind from panic and other unpleasant thoughts. galing ni jack black! quick wit and very animated! na-iimagine mo na how he would really deliver the lines.

Sobra na kong excited to watch it when I watched the MTV plus the teasers only to find out wala naman ako pag showing na! Di bale pag-uwi ko nalang . Gwapo ni John Lloyd pa rin – bagay talaga sa kanya ang suit no? Cute boy talaga sya. Nood din kayo!
