i always knew i have use for those beautiful brown paper packages from coffee shops and book shops. my sister who is a delinquent when it comes to take outs, have a lot at home and i would always take them to re-use.
starbucks paper bags
so this year for my christmas presents, i decided to use them to wrap my presents
with the help of some gold ribbons and pretty christmas tags, here’s the outcome…
simple and direct re-use (tamad version)
using the red starbucks christmas edition paper bag
another version
this one using powerbooks paper packaging
my favorite
dear friends — we will be accumulating a lot of waste this coming season. this can’t be helped because it’s part of the celebration, let’s just make it a conscious effort to re-use paper packaging, plastics, save energy without dampening the festive mood and share, share, share…
2. i will ask you if you have an old furniture that is needing mending and new paint, and i will spend one (or maybe 2) weekend sanding it, then i’ll buy an earth-friendly paint and i will try my best to turn itinto this…
very nice pieces
3. i will ask you for little pieces of papers you have saved from your travels, like a train ticket, a stamp, a receipt from a really nice restaurant, a post card or flyer for marketing, i will buy a nice blank notebook from a book store and turn it into this travel scrapbook from martha stewart ….
this one is no glue but i will need adhesives to secure your memorabilias
or i can buy a frame to keep them together like this one from this link..
so you can share to your house guests
ang dami dami ko pang ideas… i wish then i have the time, and hopefully i can see you…
my bangkok trip will not be complete without any shopping! and so with limited time to do some really serious shopping i would sneak from my group and do some shopping on my own
one thing that delighted me in bangkok “mall” shopping (e kasi nga no time to go to the bazaars) is that they are into re-using ang saving the planet too! because the emporium mall is just beside our hotel and office, this is where we would bump into each other while we do our shopping. i bought some dresses and remembered i forgot to bring in with me my reuseable bag because we came from the office. as i prepared to take my purchase, i was feeling bad kasi nga they will be put in a plastic, they handed these really nice paper bags made of recycled paperwith some green reminders : think green, nature never goes out of style !
my favorite paper bag todate!
and then i saw this advertisement inside the mall that i can buy playhound’s limited edition eco/reuseable bag for only 400 bhat! so off i go to the basement level and looked for the bag. the bag is not an ordinary eco tote!
it's a body bag!
it has adjustable starps, you can easily tie it to what suits you. the fabric is so soft, you can fold it into a small square so it fits your purse and you can carry it along with you everywhere. the bag itself is a work of art so it’s stylish enough to carry with you anywhere.
upclose
green head is a dog!
more than that, emporium mall sell this very chic and durable re-useable bag as well for 299 bhat only , this is my pasalubong for my ate. she loves it and guess what, i can borrow it anytime i want
nice right?
emporium mall in thailand offers a complete range of shopping from clothes, to shoes, bags, home appliances and furniture and grocery, too! we bought cheese, dried fruit and nuts and some wine there as well…
ayala malls celebrate “greenology” starting august. and part of this on sale now in ayala malls are these 6 pieces of designer eco tote bags! cool! for just P400 you get a designer eco tote – P100 goes to world wildlife fund and the rest of the proceeds goes to the designer’s chosen organization. read the rest of this in stylebible.ph.

so, before i left for seoul i have seen ayala malls’ greenology ad along c5. of course the eco totes lauch caught my attention, and soon as i’m back i went to glorietta and searched for them.
the random wrinkling of the bag symbolizes the cracks of Mother Earth caused by our collective abuse. but here’s good news : choose to reuse, reduce and recycle resources today, and we can help reverse the effect in 10 years. made with love, repurposed canvass and tarpaulin, this reuseable tote by michi calica works and looks better than any plastic bag.
we reuse em' all
the bag’s underside is made of re-used tarpaulins to further promote waste management. michi calica’s choice is the earth day network.
Earth Day Network was founded on the premise that all people, regardless of race, gender, income, or geography, have a moral right to a healthy, sustainable environment. Our mission is to broaden and diversify the environmental movement worldwide, and to mobilize it as the most effective vehicle for promoting a healthy, sustainable environment. We pursue our mission through a combination of education, public policy, and consumer activism campaigns. Our campaign and programs are predicated on the belief that an educated, energized population will take action to secure a healthy future for itself and its children. Earth Day Network has a global reach with a network of more than 17,000 partners and organizations in 174 countries. More than 1 billion people participate in Earth Day activities, making it the largest secular civic event in the world.
what can we do to take part? a lot.
as for me, here are what i have done and have been doing, so far…
i often use re-useable bags during shopping – but sometimes i forgot to bring them , so sometimes i use my purse/bag if they fit.
i have reduced consuming drinks in PET bottles used for plastic bottled drinks – but if i am too thirsty and i have no choice, then i purchade one.
if i can help it, i do not purchase take out food stored in styro foam and uses plastic utensils – but often, i end up eating take out
these are baby steps, but small steps collectively will take us a long way…
tomorrow, as our office take part on earth day 2009, we are encouraged to wear green so show support for this event.
lately nauubos ang internet surfing time ko sa pag surf ng mga recycled furniture. nag pa-plano kasi akong magpa renovate ng room ko sa probinsya. dahil tight ang budget and at the same time gusto ko kasing i-preserve ang mga gamit ko especially those that i used since bata pa ako.
sharing with you the favorite pieces i really really like.
book shelf made of books!
table lamp made of recycled lawnmower blades and vehicle plates
chair made of street signs – coolness!
chadelier made of disposable pens.
and these chairs made of crates… meron kami sa office nito!
moving on… simula ng mabasa ko ang post na ito – plastic by daphne osena-paez, natauhan na naman ako. she suggested here that instead of us buying bottled water, we used bring with us insulated containers filled with water and ice.” tama! ang hilig ko pa naman sa c2, bottled water at fit and rite. ngayon, nag dadalawang isip na ako everytime gusto kong bumili nito.
then napanood ko pa sa you tube and video na ito…
another awakening.
although sa waste disposal naman namin we empty segregate plastic containers for recycling, i think best pa rin to reduce usage. so ibig bang sabihin nito… hindi na ako iinom ng plastic bottled drinks? mahirap and i know i can not do it totally, papano kung i’m out at ubos na ang tubig ko sa container? manghihingi ako ng water sa restaurant para ilagay sa container ko?
i saw this re-useable bag at kultura. kultura is a store at gf megamall, bldg a full of everything na gawang pinoy.
the back reads – his art, our heart. sabi din visit the site www.amorsoloretro.com. pero wala naman ang mga products dun. instead i re-discovered the great - fernando amorsolo.
he is our first ever national artist for painting. ang mga gawa niya reflects mostly of being filipino – from fruits, women, sceneries among others. he captures filipina at their loveliest and filipino traditions that we are proud of - celebration of a first born, pagtatanim ng palay, paglalaba sa sapa, etc. there will be a series of celebration ng mga arts nyang ito in various museums :
UP JORGE B. VARGAS MUSEUM AND FILIPINIANA RESEARCH CENTER Amorsolo, His Contemporaries and Pictures of the War: Capturing Anxieties METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF MANILA Philippine Staple: The Land, The Harvest and the Maestro AYALA MUSEUM Amorsolo’s Women Concealed and Revealed
—————–
malamang pupuntahan ko ang nasa ayala museum.
rustan’s celebrates with them, too. meron din silang re-useable bags featuring his works. galing diba? a work of art that you can carry with you anytime you want
saw this at SM marikina supermarket last Saturday. meron na rin akong re-useable bag ng SM pero sana meron pang further discount para ma-encourage ang mga tao to re-use!
